The Providence Health Care (PHC) and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Divisions of Cardiology invite applications from outstanding Cardiologists with expertise in Clinical Cardiology for a full- time position. This position is primarily based at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) in conjunction with a potential clinical role at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), both of which are University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospitals.
The Divisions of Cardiology are actively involved in the care of patients with a wide spectrum of cardiovascular disease with catchment from throughout British Columbia. The General Cardiology Program at St. Paul’s Hospital has undergone a major expansion with an innovative Chest Pain Clinic as well as collaboration with Internal Medicine to establish the Vascular Medicine Clinic. The group now requires another full-time recruit to support its activities and further expansion. Foundationally, applicants must have specific interest and aptitude in General Cardiology, as they will primarily be involved in the cardiac care of ambulatory patients.
Candidates with an additional focused interest within General Cardiology will be considered more favorably. The Division has a strong interest in advancing Indigenous Health and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). We are committed to actioning the recommendations emerging from the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, especially the gaps in health outcomes for Indigenous populations and low numbers of Indigenous persons working in the field of cardiology. Other examples of focused interest include but are not restricted to: Cardiac Rehabilitation, Valve Diseases, Inflammatory Conditions, Pericardial Disease, Obesity, Addictions and Urban Health, Remote Outreach to Underserved Populations, Cardio-Oncology and Women’s Heart Health. Academic or health system skills are also desirable to enhance the St. Paul’s, VGH and UBC Divisions, including novel specialized skills such as Medical Education, Quality Improvement/Assurance and Systems Management, Bioethics, Health Policy, Quality Metrics, and Clinical Innovation.
The Divisions operate an academic practice plan, which the successful candidate is expected to contribute to, and be eligible to receive a supplementary stipend for exceptional academic contribution.
The successful candidate will have a thriving General Cardiology outpatient practice along with in-patient hospital consultative service, hospital clinics, and access to electrodiagnostic resources.
Applicants must possess FRCPC designation in Internal Medicine and Cardiology or their equivalents, and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Candidates should possess effective communication skills, demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels, and possess exceptional work ethics and collegiality. The successful candidate may also be involved in the conduct of clinical research studies, and/or relevant quality assurance projects.
This role will also be a clinical faculty position within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s academic focus, the successful candidate is expected to support the development and growth of the UBC Cardiology research and education programs. The Divisions of Cardiology will support an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher, however clinical faculty appointments at UBC are assigned at a rank determined by the Appointments and Promotion Committee of the UBC Department of Medicine.
The Divisions of Cardiology hire on the basis of merit and are strongly committed to equity and diversity within their community. We especially welcome applications from Indigenous persons, visible minority group members, women, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities. Canadian and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
