Role and Facility Information
The clinic has an opportunity for a physician to provide primary care, on a 0.5 FTE basis, to the communities of Gold River and Tahsis, with Gold River being the primary practice location with visiting services to Tahsis.
This is a job share opportunity with another physician who joined the practice in 2018. The other physician position is held by two physicians who share the practice and have been here several years. There is also a part time Nurse Practitioner. The clinic is an Island Health facility which also houses social worker visiting public health, physiotherapy, and a visiting adult mental health worker.
While this is a primary care focused position the physician will also provide emergency care to patients who come to the clinic ER room. Nurses provide first call and contact the physician if assistance is required; the nurses also provide point of care laboratory services after hours. The Gold River clinic has limited laboratory and imaging services. There is no in-patient capacity.
As an Alternate Payment contract supported site, a full-time physician would be expected to provide a minimum of 1850 hours of service annually, on a schedule consistent with safe patient care including after-hours work in this remote community. A contract for a physician in a job share arrangement would be prorated accordingly.
Gold River is a community rich in history, progressive in commerce, yet proudly retains its small-town appeal. The Village is nestled among snowcapped mountain peaks, surrounded by the Pacific Rain Forest and opens to the waters of the historic Nootka Sound.
Located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, Tahsis is a premier ecotourism destination with unparalleled outdoor recreation, stunning coastal scenery and a walkable village.
Tahsis offers an abundance of nature activities for tourists and residents alike such as sport fishing, hiking, caving, wildlife viewing, diving and all manner of water sports. Tahsis is located within the traditional territory of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation whose people have lived here and in Nootka Sound for over two thousand years.
Whether you like oceans, alpine, old growth forests or the underground, we have it all. We invite you to come live, work and play in our beautiful coastal communities, nestled in the heart of Nootka Sound!
