Specialty Family Practitioner/General Practitioner

Subspecialty Obstetrics - Operative Delivery

Role and Facility Information

We are seeking a Family Physician with operative obstetrical skills to join the medical community in Prince Rupert.

This is a flexible rural practice opportunity for a physician who would like to maintain their operative obstetrical skills while creating a practice that reflects their individual interests. The successful candidate would participate in the C-section call rota at a minimum, working alongside the existing maternity team. Outside of operative obstetrics, there are opportunities to build a varied practice that may include low-risk obstetrics, longitudinal primary care, emergency medicine, or a combination of these areas.

Prince Rupert has a collaborative, multidisciplinary maternity team that includes family physicians providing obstetrical care, physicians with advanced surgical skills, midwives, perinatal nurses, and specialist support. The current Health Match BC posting for Prince Rupert notes that C-section call is shared between FP-OSS and Obstetrics/Gynecology coverage.

For physicians interested in a broad rural scope of practice, Prince Rupert also offers opportunities across primary care and emergency medicine. Current recruitment materials highlight the ability for family physicians to shape their practice around areas of interest, including obstetrics and emergency medicine.

This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who enjoys the diversity and collegiality of rural medicine and wants the flexibility to combine operative obstetrics with other areas of family practice.

Prince Rupert is a vibrant coastal community surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the North Coast and Great Bear Rainforest. The community offers exceptional access to fishing, kayaking, hiking and outdoor recreation, along with restaurants, arts and cultural experiences and connections by air, rail, ferry and road.
