Role and Facility Information

Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, otherwise known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, and is famous for the annual Williams Lake Stampede. There is a population of approximately 35,000 in Williams Lake and surrounding areas with a total population of 62,000 for the Cariboo Regional District. A vast array of lakes, rivers and hiking and biking trails, makes Williams Lake and the surrounding area a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to camp, fish, hunt and play during the summer months while winter months bring the enjoyment of snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, and ice fishing for the winter months. Williams Lake has something for everyone.

Cariboo Memorial is under renovation with planned completion of 2026! Currently, CMH is a Level 2 Community Hospital in Williams Lake with 28 inpatient beds. CMH hospital offers ER, OR, Med-Surg, and Obstetrical units. Lab and diagnostic imaging and outpatient Hemodialysis Unit are operated on-site. The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. The addition will add 25 in-patient beds for a total of 53, a new emergency department and mental-health unit.

We have an excellent opportunity for a General Surgeon to join our team at Cariboo Memorial Hospital. There are currently 2 full time General Surgeons at the site. There is a balance between office, endoscopy and operating room procedures, with 5 OR and 5 endoscopy days available at CMH per month in addition to bi-monthly ACU days for minor procedures. There is a requirement to perform endoscopic procedures, including on call management of GI bleeds. The current General Surgeons have a combined office practice and a new addition would be welcomed into joining the group. There is also an optional teaching component with 3rd year medical students as well as residents through UBC. The closest tertiary hospital is RIH and is 3 hours away.
