British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital (BCCH) in Vancouver is the tertiary pediatric hospital for British Columbia, Canada. We care for the province’s most acutely ill and injured children and youth, provide developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offer a broad range of health services and specialized health programs. These include the full range of pediatric surgical services, including quaternary care neonatal, cardiac, neuro, transplant and major orthopedic/spine reconstruction surgical services, as well as interventional radiology & cardiology. There is an anesthesia-led acute pain service, and sedation services for oncology, gastroenterology, burns & radiotherapy. BCCH is a leading acute care teaching facility and conducts research to advance health care through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia.

BC Children’s Hospital Department of Psychiatry is seeking part-time and full-time consulting psychiatrists to work at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). As a consulting psychiatrist, you will work within a multidisciplinary team assessing and treating complex mental health presentations for families across British Columbia and Yukon. Consulting psychiatrists provide psychiatric assessments and trauma informed care to children and families. Care is provided in-person, via virtual modalities, or a combination of both. The work is primarily clinical and is remunerated by combination of Fee for Service (MSP billings) and sessional support. Depending on your interest and previous experience, there are opportunities to work in different parts of our programs, and many of our consulting psychiatrists work in a combination of different services.

Qualifications

As the successful candidate for this position, you will have demonstrated a commitment to academic and clinical excellence as well as patient and family centered care in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. You will have passed or be eligible for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada examinations in psychiatry or comparable qualifications, and may have completed a recognized training program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and have completed or be eligible to complete the RCPSC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry subspecialty certification examinations. The successful candidate will be expected to have or apply for a Clinical Faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, UBC. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment and will demonstrate a trauma informed approach in their clinical work and professional relationships. Excellent communication skills and experience working with rural and remote communities are assets.
