BC Children’s Hospital

BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) seeking a Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist. BCCH is the only dedicated pediatric tertiary care centre for the province of British Columbia in Canada serving a population of approximately 4 million people.

The Division of Endocrinology at BCCH includes 9 clinical faculty and 1 scientist, as well as a team of dedicated clinical nurse specialists, dietitians and social workers. The vision of the Division is: ‘Empowered patients, exemplary team, ever-evolving care, and excellence in education and research.’ The Division aims to maintain its status of academic excellence through ongoing clinical and pre-clinical/discovery research, and the education of future health care providers through a successful Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship training program.

The Division of Endocrinology is comprised of 3 key clinical programs:

1. The Diabetes Program serves children and youth <19 years of age diagnosed with all forms of diabetes. Care is provided at diagnosis in the Diabetes Day Program, throughout childhood and adolescence in the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic until transition to adult services. Care is also provided closer to home via outreach (Abbotsford, Prince George, Yukon), and telehealth clinics.
2. The Endocrinology Program serves as a consultation service to children and youth <19 years of age who have possible or confirmed endocrine diagnoses. The program includes outreach clinics that were established in the last 10 years in Prince George, Abbotsford, and Kelowna with the goal of minimizing patient/family travel and to support care closer to home.
3. The Gender Program, one of the busiest in North America, serves transgender and gender-nonconforming youth <19 years from across BC who are seeking information and treatment regarding pubertal blockade and gender-affirming hormone therapy. The team (Endocrinologist, Endocrine Nurse Clinician and Social Worker) work in partnership with BCCH and community mental health professionals as well as Trans Care BC as a ‘clinic without walls’ that delivers endocrine care to this population.

The successful candidate must have completed a MD degree and be eligible to obtain a specialist’s license to practice medicine in British Columbia as well as Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalents). The proposed position will have a clinical component that includes outpatient clinics in endocrinology and diabetes, in-patient service and call, and outreach/virtual care. The successful applicant will participate in educational activities within the Division including academic rounds and fellow/resident teaching.

The successful candidate will also require a clinical appointment with the University of British Columbia (UBC). The UBC Clinical faculty rank and salary will be commensurate upon personal experience and qualifications.

Interested Individuals should and submit their most current Curriculum Vitae; covering letter and 3 letters of reference to: Health Match BC

Applications will be accepted until position has been filled.

One of PHSA’s North Star priorities is to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism, which includes dismantling barriers to health care employment at every level. We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Sanya'kula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience) for support

Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and marginalization faced by Indigenous peoples. These initiatives align with an Indigenous rights-based approach, recognizing the inherent rights and self-determination of Indigenous communities. PHSA must uphold legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents such as including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study

BCCH hires on the basis of merit and encourage all qualified persons to apply. Canadian law requires that qualified Canadians and permanent residents will be given preference.
