VISIONARY CARE: CRAFTING YOUR CLINICAL PATH
Join our team in emergency medicine at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, where quick decision-making and staying calm under pressure are paramount. Our ER doctors enjoy the security of an Alternative Payments Program model, ensuring a stable income and allowing them to focus on delivering exceptional care. This sought-after arrangement is available only in select ERs in BC, providing our physicians with financial peace of mind.
We have 10 emergency physicians, handling 23,000 patient visits per year. EKRH is the regional trauma and ICU referral centre, so you’ll be seeing challenging cases that will keep up your acute care skills but still allow you to live and play in a rural setting. You’ll encounter patients spanning the entire spectrum of emergency medicine, collaborating with an incredible team of allied health professionals, such as mental health and substance use nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and round-the-clock respiratory therapists.
You’ll continue and advance your teaching skills through the many local CME sessions, along with bedside teaching opportunities with residents and medical students that come to the EKRH year-round.
We engage in facility-wide initiatives, providing dedicated funding for a variety of impactful quality improvement projects, enabling you to contribute to enhancing patient care outcomes.
AT THE HEART OF CARE: EAST KOOTENAY REGIONAL HOSPITAL
Join us at East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH), an 80-bed regional referral centre serving approximately 82,000 individuals in the beautiful East Kootenay region of BC.
Our 24/7 emergency and trauma services feature a 16-bed unit and a 6-bed ICU. Our high-acuity-response-team provides mobile critical care to stabilize and transfer rural patients.
The hospital includes a level 3 lab with new PCR and MALDI/TOF machines, plus new MRI, SPECT CT, and upcoming CT scanners in the radiology department. Construction is also underway for a new NICU, renovated ER triage, and oncology and renal departments.
With our dedicated team, you’ll find top-notch care across our comprehensive range of services: internal medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, pediatrics, anesthesia, radiology, urology, and family practice inpatient care.

Alternative Payment Arrangement
- Estimated Remuneration
- Based on a 1.0 FTE, you will receive an estimated yearly remuneration of $388,527 + rural fee premium of 14% + rural retention bonus of $21,246 (approximate total income of $464K/year). 1 FTE/year equates to 1340 direct patient-care hours and up to 340 indirect hours. One FTE works 14 x 8-hour shifts/month, and each shift earns roughly $2,760.

$21,696, providing the physician resides and practices in Cranbrook for a minimum 9 months per year.

$9,000 for within BC, $12,000 outside of BC but within Canada, and $15,000 outside of Canada.

$20,000, pro-rated for physicians working less than full time.

With RCME, you’ll be eligible to receive $1,320 for up to 2 years in Cranbrook, $3,520 during your 3rd and 4th year, and $5,720 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds. Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.
