Welcome to the Dadzi Wellness Centre, governed by the Dakelh First Nations Primary Care Society. We are a groundbreaking, standalone First Nations primary care facility located in Fort St. James in North Central British Columbia. This Centre serves in the Dakelh region of the Nak’azdli Whut’en, Binche Whut’en and Tl’azt’en First Nation. Fort St James is located on Stuart Lake in close proximity of five First Nations communities with a population of 5000 diverse community members. It is a vast and remote area, known for its natural beauty and rich natural resources.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The First Nations Primary Care Centre Nurse Practitioner positions provide culturally safe, trauma-informed primary care services at locations across British Columbia. These services are intended to address known attachment gaps in BC while honouring First Nations voices in health service delivery.

ABOUT YOU
➢ You are passionate about supporting First Nations families on their health and wellness journeys;
➢ You have a Masters Degree – Nurse Practitioner (Family);
➢ You have an active practicing license in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives(BCCNM);
➢ You have training in Cultural Safety & Humility or are willing to take this training;
➢ You value working with a wraparound team of primary care, mental health and traditional wellness providers;
➢ Ideally you have experience working with First Nations providing culturally safe care; and
➢ Current valid driving license and willingness to travel on a pre-arranged schedule.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be a Most Responsible Provider supporting the practice of Western and Traditional Wellness approaches to patient focused primary health care.

A minimum panel size is typically expected to reach 600 patients per 1.0 FTE by year 3 as described within the NP clinical service contract template.

The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing primary care in a culturally safe environment consisting of a customized team of allied health professionals, Indigenous navigators, traditional and mental health practitioners.

Services are expected to be provided with cultural humility, recognizing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the client (and family) to provide whole person care.

While each FNPCC is rooted in its specific community focus, typically a Nurse Practitioner is expected to provide the following core services in compliance with policies and procedures of acceptable BC health and wellness regulations and standards:

1. Culturally safe care integrating cultural humility and traditional values and ways of being for all patients;
2. Serves as a team member with others such as a General Practitioners and allied health staff as well as traditional wellness
advisors who collectively provide primary care to the patient;
3. Management and co-ordination of patient care across the spectrum of primary, secondary, and tertiary care;
4. Provision of family planning and sexual health services;
5. Primary mental health and substance use (MHSU) services including assessment, diagnosis, individualized care plans, early support and referral;
6. Primary palliative care supports including office-based services, home visits and providing support and referrals to the team responsible for providing palliative care;
7. Consultation and referral to other health care professionals where beneficial;
8. Patient education, preventive care and assessment; and
9. A wide range of collaboration with other interdisciplinary team members such as huddles, conferences, consultations, team meetings, service co-ordination and referrals to other health care providers.

COMPENSATION
Compensation is detailed within the contract and aligns with provincial norms, which are revised from time to time. The current service contract compensation is $171,533 - $182,968 over 3 years based on panel attachment. Applicants may be eligible for additional incentives. NPs are not required to contribute to clinic overhead.
