The Opportunity
Northern Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Coast Tsimshian Mobile Primary Care Team. This full-time position is based in Prince Rupert, with a mix of in-person and virtual care delivery to remote First Nations communities. The NP will provide longitudinal primary care to patients of all ages, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to support culturally safe and accessible health services.
The NP will travel to Lax Kw’alaams (approximately 40 minutes by ferry plus a short drive) for 1–2 weeks per month, and to Metlakatla (5-minute ferry ride) for 1–2 days per month. Travel is coordinated by the mobile care team, and housing is provided in Lax Kw’alaams during on-site visits. Virtual care will be provided between visits.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide longitudinal primary care to patients of all ages in remote First Nations communities.
• Deliver in-person care in Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla, and virtual care from Prince Rupert.
• Attach patients per the Provincial Attachment System (PAS) guidelines.
• Collaborate with a mobile team of nurse practitioners, family physicians, registered nurses, and mental health clinicians.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR)s for documentation and care coordination.
• Work alongside local clinic staff, including primary care assistants and TeleCare support.
• Engage with real-time virtual support for urgent and emergent cases.
• Contribute to culturally safe, trauma-informed care delivery.
About Prince Rupert Regional Hospital
Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is the primary acute care facility serving the northwest coast of British Columbia. About the Mobile Primary Care Team
The Coast Tsimshian Mobile Primary Care Team is part of the Prince Rupert and Coast Tsimshian Primary Care Network. It serves remote communities including Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla, providing accessible, culturally safe care through a combination of in-person and virtual services. The team will include:
• 2 Nurse Practitioners
• 2 Family Physicians
• Registered Nurses
• Mental Health Clinicians
Lax Kw’alaams has a 24-hour nursing station, primarily staffed by agency nurses, and offers housing for visiting providers.
Metlakatla is a small, culturally rich community located just minutes from Prince Rupert by ferry.
About the Community
Prince Rupert is a coastal city of approximately 14,000 residents, located in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest. Surrounded by mountains and ocean, it offers stunning scenery and abundant outdoor recreation including hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The city is rich in Indigenous history and culture, particularly of the Tsimshian people .
Prince Rupert is accessible by road, ferry, rail, and air, with daily flights to Vancouver.
Salary Range
New Graduate NP - $145,739
1 Year Experience - $153,026
2 Years Experience - $160,313

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education and Experience
- Completion of BCCNM approved Master’s degree level nurse practitioner program.
- Eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
