ROLE AND FACILITY INFORMATION

Join the dedicated team at the South Okanagan Similkameen Division of Family Practice in Penticton as an MHSU

Outreach Family Physician. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals facing mental health challenges.

Responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, creating short-term engagement and

treatment plans, delivering counselling and therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with community resources to

address various social determinants of health. Outreach activities may involve virtual consultations, visiting primary care

clinics, conducting home visits to reach patients who have difficulty accessing clinic-based services, and engaging in

community outreach to build partnerships and deliver mental health education.

As a member of the Community Walk-In Clinic (CWIC) team, you will contribute to the delivery of primary care services for

both attached and unattached patients, with a strong emphasis on mental health. You will also offer consultative support

and recommendations to patient medical home primary care providers (MRPs) regarding mental health management,

educate patients on mental health care and prevention, and work closely with nurse practitioners, social workers, and

other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care. Additionally, you will manage referrals to

mental health specialists and services as required and consistently monitor patient progress to adjust treatment plans as

necessary.

Specialized training and interests in mental health, such as certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or other

therapeutic modalities, will be highly valued. A commitment to integrated care models, preventive mental health

strategies, and the ability to manage complex cases are essential for this role. If you are passionate about holistic care and

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License (Full), Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)

(Mandatory)

• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) (Mandatory)

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Strong understanding of mental health care and therapeutic interventions

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

• Experience in mental health assessments and treatment planning
