We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Critical Care Team at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) in Surrey, BC. As part of this role the NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team with a coordinated approach to ensure safe, effective, and timely care for patients.

SMH’s Critical Care is a dynamic team that focuses on mixed medical – surgical adult Critical Care in a combined 46 bed closed unit, comprised of 26 ICU and 20 High Acuity beds, supported by a team of intensivists, Critical Care RNs, Respiratory Therapists, Allied Health professionals, and clinical associate physicians.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Practitioner position is designed as an acute care NP role with aim to work in a collaborative manner in a team setting. The primary goal is to provide supportive care from an acute NP perspective to a defined population of patients admitted to the ICU at SMH. This role is focused on providing continuity of care to long stay chronically critically ill patients as well as newly admitted patients.

In this rewarding ICU NP role you will have the opportunity to:

Develop an understanding of managing critically ill patients and their needs
Respond and assist to any on unit medical emergencies or code blues
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team on patient’s journey
Be proficient in complex assessment, diagnosis, and treatment/ management planning.
Work along side with an experienced, collaboratively and supportive ICU NP

Specifically, you will gain experience:

Complex discharge planning/transfers planning and advanced clinical decision making for patients with multiple comorbidities, chronic diseases, and variable social needs
Working in a team-based environment with a specialized interdisciplinary team to prevent deterioration and improve quality of life
As a regional hospital for Fraser Health, as well as the home hospital for one of BC’s fastest growing communities, Surrey Memorial Hospital is the second largest hospital in the province and provides specialized care to people from across Fraser Health, not only to residents of Surrey. We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join us working with Internal Medicine Services across Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Surrey is one of Canada’s fastest growing cities and its land mass makes it one of the largest cities in the province, equal to the size of Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby combined. Known as the City of Parks, Surrey has over 6,000 acres of parkland and 15 golf courses and driving ranges. Also, despite rapid growth, Surrey has held onto the rural flavour of its past, with about 35 per cent of its land designated as agricultural and still actively farmed.

This is a great opportunity for a new Nurse Practitioner to join a well supported fellowship program to help consolidate clinical skills. Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in house skills development such as suturing and x-ray interpretation in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation. You will be welcomed into a New Graduate NP Community of Practice team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.

This position will also have a new and exciting post graduate up to 6 month nurse practitioner residency program. FH is the first health authority to implement a formal residency program for NPs in the province, which will be key to supporting the development of NPs and practice-readiness in select programs. You will receive in depth in house advanced training within a clinical area relevant to the position, improve your team collaboration and develop a model of patient centred care. This is your opportunity to consolidate your nurse practitioner education with a team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.
