The Opportunity
Northern Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide longitudinal primary care across two locations: the Smithers Primary Care Clinic and the Witset Health Centre in Moricetown. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to serve both urban and Indigenous rural populations, delivering culturally safe care to patients of all ages.
The NP will rotate between the two sites throughout the week, with travel (approx. 32 km) coordinated as part of the role. The NP will attach a patient panel and is eligible for financial incentives through the Primary Care Attachment System (PCAS).
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver longitudinal primary care to patients of all ages in both Smithers and Witset.
• Attach patients per the Provincial Attachment System (PAS) guidelines.
• Use Electronic Medical Records (MOIS) for documentation and care coordination.
• Collaborate with family physicians, nursing staff, MOAs, and interprofessional teams.
• Participate in team-based care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Travel between Smithers and Witset as part of a regular rotation.
About the Communities
Smithers is a picturesque town in northwestern British Columbia, nestled in the Bulkley Valley. Known for its alpine charm and vibrant arts scene, Smithers offers excellent amenities, a strong sense of community, and access to outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, and fishing.
Witset (Moricetown) is a Wet’suwet’en First Nation community located approximately 32 km west of Smithers. It is home to a rich cultural heritage and a strong commitment to community wellness. The Witset Health Centre provides essential health services and is staffed by nursing and administrative support teams.
About the Clinics
The Smithers Primary Care Clinic and Witset Health Centre are both integral parts of the regional health system, offering comprehensive primary care services. The NP will be part of a collaborative team that includes physicians, nurses, MOAs, and allied health professionals. Both sites use MOIS EMR and support a patient-centered, culturally respectful approach to care.
Salary Range
New Graduate NP - $145,739
1 Year Experience - $153,026
2 Years Experience - $160,313

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Completion of BCCNM approved Master’s degree level nurse practitioner program.
- Eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
- Ability to collaborate, consult with and formally refer patients/clients/residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices; ability to introduce education and evidence-based research.
- Ability to assess and recognize population health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population-based prevention and health promotion.
